Koi carp ( Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758) are a brightly coloured fish native to Asia and Europe. They are an ornamental variant of common carp ( Cyprinus carpio carpio) and were developed by selective breeding from the Asian subspecies Cyprinus carpio haematopterus.
